Season 8, Episode 35: Web War
"Web War"
Episode 35
Air Date: November 13th, 2000
Well, it's rare an episode of Power Rangers can creep me out and entertain me at the same time but that's exactly what "Web War" does. After an accident where Carter is testing a prototype of a new weapon called the "Trans Armor Cycle", Diabolico is demanding to Jinxer he needs a new monster to defeat the rangers when one slides down, upside down behind him. His name is Arachnor and he'll destroy the rangers in exchange for giving his huge sack of eggs' food as they will hatch into monstrous arachnids like him. Diabolico tells him Mariner Bay is filled with people that his babies can literally eat as their deal is set. Soon Arachnor begins attacking the city; creating a large web to trap his captured victims. The rangers soon arrive and fight off some Batlings as Arachnor scans their various weapons to become impervious to them. After he vanishes during a blast from the Rescue Bird, the rangers realize the captures civilians are also gone as they head back to the Aqua Base to track them down.
As the rangers and Captain Mitchell discuss how to defeat this monster, they come to the conclusion that the Mega Battles are the best option against it. As the other rangers leave, Ms. Fairweather orders Carter to stay behind to continue testing the Trans Armor Cycle to Captain Mitchell's agreement as they need all the help they can get with this particular monster. But the testing of the cycle continues to be unsuccessful to Ms. Fairweather and Carter's disappointment. Meanwhile, Jinxer visits Olympius once again in that cave as he swears vengeance on those who oppose him. As Arachnor attacks the city again and captures innocent victims, the other rangers arrive to stop him. During the fight, Kelsey and Dana are captured by Arachnor as well as Chad and Joel who are unsuccessful in summoning their Mega Battles. As the Batlings and the captured rangers teleport away, Carter soon arrives to help as Arachnor hides. Arachnor uses this as an opportunity to turn into a tarantula (YIKES!!! o_O) and land on Carter's back to sneak into the Aqua Base as he heads back there.
Back at the Aqua Base, Arachnor jumps off him and begins attacking the crew of the Aqua Base, including Captain Mitchell. As Carter becomes wise to what's going on, he tries to contact Ms. Fairweather to leave the base but she and her crew are also captured as well. She manages to give Carter a key card before being teleported away by Arachnor. Apparently, Ms. Fairweather has worked the kinks out on the Trans Armor Cycle as Carter morphs and takes a hug risk in using it to go after everyone and save the day. Unfortunately, on his way to save the day, Vipra tries to stop him with her stupid Vipari but at least we get a nice car chase/fight!!! I like this sequence, especially the Batlings just kicking random people out of their cars and using them to chase after Carter! lol Anyway, after some fancy moves and using the cycle's lasers, Carter defeats the Batlings and Vipra to continue tracking the others. He soon arrives at the warehouse as Arachnor's spiders are about to munch on everyone. He destroys the sack of eggs and frees the other rangers. While Carter deals with Arachnor, the other rangers morph and fight off the Batlings. Joel eventually saves the civilians as Captain Mitchell and Ms. Fairweather help them get to safety after being freed themselves.
As Carter and Arachnor battle, Carter finally initializes the Battlizer mode of the weapon and finally succeeds in doing so. Like the battlizers before it, it's absolutely silly with skis for foot armor and wheels for armor?? O_o But it manages to get the job done as Arachnor can't scan it because it's too high tech as Carter murders him in badass fashion with it. As the episode concludes, Queen Bansheera once again gives Diabolico as well as the rest of her generals a hard time for failing. Uhh huh....-_- The rangers joke around about being scared of spiders as Joel pays Carter back for making fun of them about their spider free! Overall, an awesome episode with a great one off monster villain actually! Arachnor and all the spider imagery just freaked me out! Ewwww, I HATE spiders Carter! :(
